The Cultural Arts Coalition mounted its yearly exhibition at ASU West Campus, Fletcher Library - Reception

The reception for over 150 students, teachers, adult artists and guests was January 29th from 0900-1:30 PM... Dennis Isbell, Director and Humanities and Arts Subject Librarian, ASU West Campus, Fletcher Library, welcomed everyone...

Students, teachers, professional artists and guests shared this body of artworks on two floors.

Following refreshments; enjoying their artworks on exhibition; viewing the adult artists’ works; the students and teachers flowed outside to experience a tour of the campus guided by ASU West counselors.

An hour later the students met guests and adult artists outside in the Circle of Power to listen to a guest artist speak and then drum and dance....First a thoughtful message from artist Michael Butzine who discussed the value of being an artist and the discipline and focus a young artist needs to pursue to be successful in today’s world.

Then drumming and dance led by Keith Johnson and Muslimah Hameed. These following images say it all!

"We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once." - Friedrich Nietzsche.

Where we have stopped dancing, singing, being enchanted by stories, or finding comfort in silence is where we have experienced the loss of soul, according to Waylon Lewis on July 26, 2012, http://www.elephantjournal.com

Thank you so much for your hospitality last week Dennis and Margaret. The students all had a great time and said what an awesome field trip it was. You can tell by the smiles on their faces that they were truly enjoying themselves. Many of the students were also extremely impressed with ASU West and really enjoyed touring the campus. Please feel free to use any of the photos that I sent you any way you wish. I wasn’t sure which pictures would be the most useful to you so I sent you all a copy of each picture that I had. Thank you again for making this event happen. Jeff Kunes, South Mt. H.S. Magnet Arts Instructional Leader.
